Design and fuel manufacturing - Framatome
The Operations Support Engineer position is within the Core Design and Safety Analysis organization in the Fuel Business Unit which is responsible for a broad range of activities including providing on and off site support to customers in regards to physics testing, core monitoring and reactivity management, supporting the PWR Owners Group, interacting with professional societies (ANS), developing core designs and performing reload licensing activities while using the industry’s most advanced core design tools.
The engineering activities are coordinated with other Framatome fuel engineering departments both locally and worldwide. This opportunity is located in either Lynchburg, Virginia and remote work options may be considered.
You will be responsible for traveling to sites, within the United States and possibly worldwide, to assist in the conduct of Zero Power Physics Testing, understanding how our core monitoring programs work and provide technical assistance to customers, represent Framatome within the PWR Owners Group and Reactivity Management Working Group sub‑committee, and assist Framatome in other areas of interest. Typical assignments include:
- Traveling to site (usually up to a week) to conduct or assist in ZPPT.
- Analyzing core monitoring behavior.
- Use core monitoring software to identify issues given plant data.
- Participate in and support interfaces with customers and professional organizations.
- Prepare and review reports, safety analyses, calculation files, and associated records.
You have demonstrated PWR or BWR reactor engineering and/or operations engineering experience. You have experience in core monitoring software, reactor outage and startup support and reactivity management. You display positive and effective team interaction skills and value positive peer relationships. You place a priority on leadership and initiative and can be counted on to maintain focus on customer requirements. You have the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments and execute them on‑time with quality.
You have developed effective written and oral communication skills. Your actions, behaviors, and decisions are made in a manner consistent with Framatome’s Core Values.
- You have completed a BS, MS, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, or a related degree (e.g., physics with nuclear concentration). You have worked in an engineering role for at least three years, have real world operational experience and are ready to join Framatome and help deliver clean, safe energy and advance nuclear technology.
- Excellent communication skills (oral / presentation / written).
- Proven ability to effectively communicate and coordinate activities among diverse groups within an engineering organization and with utility customers.
- Positive and effective team interaction skills along with positive peer relationship skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and initiative in meeting customer requirements.
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments to reach team objectives

- Experience with PWR core monitoring methods, core performance analysis, and on site reactor support.
- Demonstrated PWR or BWR core design and/or nuclear analysis experience.
- Demonstrated mastery of computer model development and application (e.g. MCNP, SCALE, CASMO, SIMULATE or other nuclear industry analysis code).
