Overview
The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to decarbonize and meet energy transition targets. With increasing large loads such as data centers, transmission planners play a vital role in shaping the grid of the future. This role supports and/or leads ongoing projects and business development with utility clients focused in the Northeast US.

The successful candidate will have related experience and technical knowledge in transmission planning and bulk system studies, planning processes, and familiarity with FERC, NERC and NPCC standards and processes. Direct experience with at least one of the following ISOs: ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, and/or IESO is required. Strong background in performing system impact studies and transmission planning using PSS/E, TARA, and PSCAD is essential.

This position is flexible anywhere in North America, with a preference for candidates located in the Northeast (including New York, Boston, Toronto or Philadelphia).

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of steady-state and transient power system studies.

Participate in meetings with utilities as part of project delivery or business development.

Lead or support projects throughout the whole lifecycle (technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, close-out).

Work closely with team members across North America and globally.

Participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and other technical committees; stay up to date with latest standards and requirements.

Minimum qualifications

Advanced degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering from a recognized institution.

Minimum 4 years of direct experience with power system studies using PSS/E, TARA and/or PSCAD.

Strong background with at least one of ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, IESO.

Up-to-date knowledge and experience with NERC, FERC, and NPCC reliability standards.

Team player with strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Ability and willingness to travel within North America.

Preferred qualifications

Direct experience with National Grid and/or Eversource.

Experience with large loads such as data centers.

Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License.
