Operations Engineering Team Lead – Overview
The Operations Engineering Team Lead is a key position within the Technical Services team at Canlin Energy. As part of the Operations function, Technical Services provides process safety, turnaround, engineering, and integrity operational support while progressing strategic infrastructure development initiatives. The aim of the Technical Services team is to deliver technical engineering solutions, maintain regulatory compliance, and provide integrity recommendations to successfully maintain current and future business plans.
The Operations Engineering Team Lead coordinates a team of Operations Engineers embedded within Canlin Energy’s Operational districts, adhering to industry standards and best practices, providing prioritized support to Operations, and aligning with the goals of the Technical Services group. This role will be the primary contact for the Operations Superintendents, Foremen and Field Leads for day-to-day support and is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong field engineering background looking to grow their leadership skills.
Field travel is required (approximately 20%) and will occur on both a planned and unplanned basis.
Working location:  Calgary, Cochrane (Wildcat Hills Gas Plant), Rocky Mountain House, or Edson (Hanlan Robb Gas Plant). Direct reports are located from Fort St. John to Calgary. This position is eligible to work from home up to one (1) day per week.

The Role
Leading a team of 3 to 5 Engineers/Technologists, support and oversee the success of the Operations Management System elements at all Canlin’s infrastructure assets (e.g. Pressure Equipment Integrity Management, Pipeline Integrity Manual, Maintenance, Engineering Standards, Project Management, Turnaround Delivery Models, Process Safety Elements, etc.)
Maximize volumes to sales at all Canlin’s infrastructure assets by supporting field operations with their day-to-day needs.
Ensure current and accurate records are maintained in assigned areas (e.g. P&’s, project files, Safety Critical Information, etc.) and oversee the Drawing Management Program vide technical insight/support through routine review/approval of work conducted by Field-based Technical Services staff.
Development and stewardship of the Maintenance Capital Budget and Technical Services aspects of the Operations Expense budget.
Promote safety leadership culture and assist in incident investigations.
Act as the relationship lead for select contract engineering and local construction companies.
Responsible for objective setting and reporting progress of the Operations Engineering team.
Mentor staff and provide guidance on industry standards and regulations, company policy and specifications, technical topics, project and construction management, operational practices, and work prioritization.
Foster training, development, collaboration, and succession planning for employees.
Liaise collaboratively with other groups (Production Engineering, Project Engineering, Technical Specialists, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, HSE, Supply Chain, HR, Development Engineering, Process Safety, Joint Venture, Surface and Land).
Other duties and special projects as assigned.

The Person
Engineering Degree with a minimum of 10 years related experience in oil and gas facilities and operations engineering (prefer Chemical, Mechanical, or Petroleum).
Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in good standing in Alberta (benefit if also a P.Eng. in BC).
Good organizational, leadership, stakeholder management, and people engagement skills.
Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively with internal customers in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on safe and efficient delivery (a working Team Lead).
Able to effectively coach, mentor, and develop technical persons.
Excellent understanding of the Process, Operational, and Maintenance aspects of upstream operations, equipment, and terminology.
Understanding of Alberta/Canada industry codes, standards, and regulations.
Experience in facility work/modifications (plant, equipment, pipelines, maintenance, abandonments, troubleshooting, optimization, turnarounds), Project Management (small to medium sized projects), Asset Integrity fundamentals, Equipment Reliability, and Corrosion concerns and mitigation measures
Innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to think differently.
Enthusiastic, adaptable, and respectful of others.
Strong computer proficiency.
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license and able to travel up to 20% of the time in Western Canada.
Certification in H2S Alive and First Aid.
