Location
Whitehorse, Yukon
Role Overview
Reporting to the President, you will lead and support geotechnical investigations and project delivery across northern environments. The position blends field rotations with office-based technical work and offers flexibility once established in the region.
Core Responsibilities
Oversee drilling programs, field investigations, site reviews, and construction monitoring
Conduct geotechnical analysis related to permafrost, foundations, earthworks, and geohazards
Prepare technical reports, design input, and engineering recommendations
Coordinate with contractors, municipalities, First Nations, consultants, and clients
Manage project schedules, documentation, and communication
Perform materials testing, lab work, and slope stability modelling
Support remote-site logistics and field rotations during construction season
Contribute to planning for upcoming field seasons, scopes, and equipment coordination
Guide junior staff and participate in operational decision-making
Required Qualifications
Active P.Eng. registration in Canada
Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering or Civil Engineering (geotechnical focus)
Ideally 5+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Comfortable operating full-size pickup trucks
Willingness to travel for fieldwork, including multi-day or week-long rotations
Preferred Experience
Broad exposure to field investigations and materials testing
Slope stability modelling (Geo Studio, Rocscience)
GIS and spatial analysis
Northern or remote project experience
Permafrost, foundations, and earthworks background
Experience mentoring junior engineers
