Director of Engineering

Build the execution engine behind Clinia’s platform
At Clinia, we are building the search and data infrastructure that powers digital health platforms across North America.

The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading and operating an engineering organization of approximately 25 people through a layer of engineering team leads, ensuring reliable delivery, platform stability, security, and consistent execution across teams.

Reporting to the CTO, the role covers delivery across software engineering, data, and infrastructure. The CTO remains accountable for long-term technical vision and overall platform direction. This is an operational leadership role for someone comfortable running the engineering function, making concrete tradeoffs, and maintaining a high bar for execution in a growing environment.

What you will do

Own engineering delivery across all teams by establishing clear planning processes, delivery metrics and operating cadence.

Manage and develop engineering team leads, owning their performance, effectiveness, and growth through clear expectations, feedback and accountability.

Set and enforce engineering standards across quality, reliability, documentation, and operational practices.

Own the implementation and operationalization of platform architecture, tooling, and infrastructure, executing against the technical direction defined by the CTO while balancing delivery needs and system constraints.

Review and contribute to production code when necessary to unblock teams, reinforce technical standards, or deeply understand platform realities, without becoming a day-to-day individual contributor.

Ensure enterprise-grade platform reliability and operational excellence, including availability, performance, security, observability, incident response and capacity planning.

Act as the primary escalation point for delivery, reliability, and resourcing issues, owning cross-team dependency management and tradeoffs.

Translate company and product priorities into realistic engineering plans and commitments, partnering closely with Product leadership.

We hope you also have:

Proven ownership of the day-to-day operation of an engineering organization, including planning, delivery, reliability, and team performance.

Experience leading and scaling an engineering organization with multiple teams and front-line engineering leads.

Deep understanding of modern software architecture, platform reliability, and operational excellence at scale.

Experience making autonomous decisions across hiring, tooling, and delivery processes and execution-level technical tradeoffs.

Strong manager-of-managers leadership, coaching and holding leads accountable for delivery, performance, and team health.

Comfort partnering closely with Product, Design, and executive leadership to align engineering execution with business goals.

Compensation: $180,000 - $200,000 CAD
