We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer (Overhead Lines OHL) to support the successful delivery of power transmission and distribution projects. Working alongside the Project Manager / Project Director and wider project team, you will take accountability for end-to-end project delivery from planning and design through to commissioning and handover.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering complex OHL projects within a high‑performing and safety‑driven environment.

• Lead and attend project reviews / project meetings
• Have an awareness of the Digital Briefcase
• Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)
• Prepare internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
• Help ensure reports provide relevant information to enable informed, cost‑effective decisions in line with overall strategy
• Help ensure scope and package assignment supports the team in coordinated working
• Specify, understand, develop and implement technical information and drawings into delivery
• Understand and specify plant and equipment requirements
• Assist the Project Manager to lead risk/opportunity reviews, present the Risk Register and recommend/implement changes
• Log and escalat any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority
• Manage subcontractors, including monitoring contractor attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved
• Ensure procurement plans are available in line with overall project plans, and material/resources/supply‑chain activities are delivered to meet scheduled deadlines
• Ensure that expenditure is in line with the budget and that resources are utilised efficiently to ensure cost control
• Identify elements for cost recovery from others
• Incorporate and balance both operational and commercial constraints into decision making
• Analyse, appraise and implement CEs
• Own the project budget
• Have an understanding of the contract and knowledge of commercial impact
• Manage commercial change
• Request plant and materials
• Help develop, implement and update resource allocation plans and raise appropriate requests
• Set people to work
• Upskill others
• Coordinate with other project activities and internal functions

The following qualities, experience and skills are required or desirable:

• Organised, innovative and creative Project Engineer with relevant knowledge of power transmission & distribution
• Experience of working on projects with a focus on commercial/project management communications
• Experience in implementing safe systems of work
• Experience in managing risks and change processes through a solutions‑based approach to problem solving
• Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at all levels across the business and the ability to negotiate and influence
• Competent and confident in discussing ideas and plans
• Ability to communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Aware of and can promote the benefits of diversity and inclusion
• Demonstrated resilience and determination to succeed

• Proficient on O365
• Holds or working towards a formal qualification in construction/engineering or equivalent industry experience
• Desire to work towards APM PFQ/PMQ
• Has CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent qualifications
