Hybrid Building Automation Controls Engineer and Field Service Technician
My client is a well known Energy Management and Building Automaton company that is actively seeking a Building Automation Controls Engineer who can do some design but go out to job sites and work in the field as well. Could be a remote work type situation for the right person!
Duties include:
- Communicate with customers and in-house technical and engineering staff
- Programs and commissions local DDC and network controllers and the BAS front end computers per sequences of operation and contract documents.
- Integrates to 3rd party systems/equipment such as BACnet, LON, and Modbus on Chillers, Boilers, VFD’s, Generators, Rooftop Units (RTU’s), VRF’s, FAS, etc.
- Follows company established programming standards and precedents.
- Provides onsite and offsite technical support during installation, start-up, commissioning and turnover processes.
- Participates in onsite walk-throughs, formal commissioning and customer demonstration/ training on assigned projects.
- Organizes and maintains job folder and updates pertinent job-related information.
- Completes all project closeout documentation, including program backups and as-built drawings.
- Completes assigned projects on time, within budget, and per contractual requirements.
- Writes progress reports to the Project Manager and participates in progress meetings as directed
- Promote, maintain and enhance new and existing customer relationships.
- BS Building Automation Systems, BS Mechanical Engineering, BS Electrical Engineering, Associates Degree in Building Automation Systems (BAS), Electronics or equivalent job experience in the controls industry.
- 5+ years of experience programming BAS and integrating with third party equipment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills, including creating graphics for commercial BAS graphical user interfaces.
- Solid knowledge and practical experience with Computer Networks and advanced knowledge and practical experience of BAS Networks.
- Advanced knowledge of the controls concepts and strategies for commercial building HVAC mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of commercial building Mechanical & Electrical operations.
- Understanding and practical experience with the Electrical and Electronics concepts associated with BAS Direct Digital Control Systems (DDC).
- Experience programming the following product lines is preferred:
Andover, Schneider Electric Eco Struxure, Tridium, and Niagara. Programming experience with other BAS platforms is a plus. - Ability to proficiently read Mechanical and Electrical blueprints.
- Physical ability to walk construction sites, including stairs and ladders.
- Practical experience with commercial building construction site conditions, layouts, and safety practices.

The programmer must have short- and long-term processing abilities and demonstrate their ability to understand and comply with all safety requirements, company policies and procedures, project, contractual requirements, and to provide clear and accurate documentation. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Organize, file, and track all project coordination and correspondence.
- Accurate documentation to successfully track projects, including requests for change orders, change orders, project close-out (including timely processing of O&M s and asbuilt packages).
- Learn all software programs utilized in the day-to-day business operations of the company
