Duties and Responsibilities
  • Report to both the Chair and Associate Chair for Laboratory Operations and be supervised by the Supervisor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Laboratories.
  • Create, operate and maintain a safe and professional laboratory environment by acquiring and maintaining proficiency in the safe operation of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform high‑quality equipment and facility repair, maintenance, modernization and fabrication using mechanical, electrical, electronic and computer application skills.
  • Act as a technical advisor to students, staff and faculty.
  • Serve as a joint participant in the University Health and Safety Program within the laboratory.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with the position and supervise students and student employees working within the laboratory.
Qualifications
  • Excellent theoretical knowledge of mechanical and aerospace engineering principles, including solid and fluid mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials, control systems and heat transfer.
  • Practical knowledge of analog and digital instrumentation, computer technology and basic fabrication techniques such as machining and welding.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team with students, other technical staff and faculty.
Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a 3‑year mechanical engineering technology program from a recognized institute of technology or an accredited equivalent.
  • Eligibility for certification as an OACETT Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.).
  • Minimum five years of work experience in a position with similar responsibilities, preferably including time in a university environment. Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered.
