About the role

As a Hardware Engineer within the INS and IAS Subsystems (ICT Subsystem), you will play a key role in delivering engineering services across the design, delivery, acceptance and sustainment of the JP9101 Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System (EDHFCS).

Working closely with Systems Engineers, you will take ownership of hardware‑based design activities, producing equipment specifications, assemblies, installation instructions, cable diagrams and associated Product Baseline documentation that underpin critical Defence capability.

This role spans the full Engineering Product Lifecycle, applying sound engineering principles to develop calculations, technical solutions and design improvements.

You will conduct technical investigations and risk assessments, ensure compliance with applicable standards and procedures, and contribute to secure configuration and data management.

About you

Comfortable working independently while knowing when to seek guidance on complex matters, you bring a structured approach to planning and delivering work to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.

Experience producing high‑quality technical documentation and working within controlled engineering and data management environments will set you up for success.

With an appreciation of product safety, risk management, HSE and trade control requirements, you bring professionalism, integrity and a commitment to continuous improvement in everything you do.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Approximately 2 years relevant experience in relatable technical/engineering roles.
  • Hold an accredited (under the Washington Accord) bachelor’s degree in engineering or hold the recognised engineering qualifications.
  • An understanding of applicable engineering toolsets (e.g. PLM or MRP systems, design, simulation and analysis software).
  • Experience in creating Product Baseline documentation including detailed product design artifacts and drawings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve desired results.
