Operations Manager
Position Summary… The Director of Onsite Energy Project Development leads the end-to-end delivery of on-site distributed generation projects, including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and generator assets. This role is responsible for overseeing the development of energy projects across operating facilities while ensuring minimal site disruption, high safety standards, and long-term asset performance. The position partners closely with real estate, operations, utilities, and finance teams to deploy scalable, cost-effective distributed energy solutions.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including real estate, operations, utilities, finance, construction, energy management, IT, and sustainability. The team is focused on deploying innovative distributed energy solutions that support operational excellence, sustainability goals, and long-term asset performance across our facilities. This is an onsite role based at our Home Office in Bentonville, Arkansas. We are not considering remote applicants, and a full relocation package is available.
you’ll do
- Lead the development of onsite distributed generation projects (solar PV, BESS, generators) for new and existing facilities.
- Conduct site feasibility assessments, including electrical capacity, load profiles, interconnection, and constructability.
- Manage all utility coordination, interconnection applications, approvals, and incentive programs.
- Oversee project economics, capital planning, and financial modeling for behind-the-meter assets.
- Support and structure contracts, including ownership, PPA, lease, and energy-as-a-service models.
- Coordinate with construction, facilities, and operations teams to integrate DG assets and ensure proper documentation, training, and handoff.
- Prepare executive-level updates, develop standardized playbooks, and identify risks related to site operations, safety, and regulatory changes.
- Proven experience leading distributed energy project development (solar PV, BESS, generators).
- Strong understanding of site feasibility, utility coordination, and interconnection processes.
- Proficiency in project economics, capital planning, and financial modeling for energy assets.
- Experience with contracting structures such as ownership, PPA, lease, and energy-as-a-service.
- Ability to manage cross-functional teams and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of integrating EMS, SCADA, monitoring, and controls with facility operations.
- Excellent communication skills, with a focus on executive updates and stakeholder engagement.

- 1 year’s supervisory experience.
- Certified Energy Manager.
- Experience in building systems design, controls, or operations.
- Experience negotiating contracts or terms of service agreements.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field.
- Project Management Certification.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
- Utility – Certified Energy Manager Certification.
