We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer, P.Eng., with a strong background in mechanical system design, codes and standards, failure analysis, damage assessment, and product liability. Experience with HVAC, building mechanical, fire protection systems, and heavy machinery is required. Experience as a technical expert in litigation is a significant asset.
PRIMARY PURPOSETo conduct incident investigations to determine the cause of failure or service interruption of mechanical systems and equipment. Provide clients with mechanical engineering consulting, including root cause analysis, repair options, risk assessments, and corrective actions. Deliver expert engineering services to clients in insurance, legal, government, and private sectors.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Assess client assignments and pursue investigations accordingly.
- Inspect mechanical systems for design, installation, and maintenance quality.
- Investigate failures, malfunctions, or damages to determine root causes.
- Determine damage scope and repair/replacement specifications.
- Provide design specifications for repairs or replacements.
- Review legal documents, regulations, codes, and standards relevant to investigations.
- Advise clients on insurance claims, legal actions, risk, and compliance issues.
- Produce detailed reports on failure analysis and repair specifications.
- Serve as an expert witness in court and litigation activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues and other investigators.
- Leverage international team expertise.
- Develop professional relationships with clients and industry groups.
- Participate in marketing, seminars, webinars, and conferences.
- Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
Education & Licensing: Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and registered as a P.Eng. in Canada.
Experience: 5+ years in failure analysis and forensic engineering, experience with HVAC, machinery, damage assessments, and insurance or legal sectors. Expert witness experience is a plus.
Skills & Abilities: Excellent communication, proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, knowledge of industry codes, analytical skills, project management, presentation skills, and client focus.
Work EnvironmentOffice or remote work, site investigations, travel up to 40%, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
