A position is available in a strong teaching and research team in an environment with a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The incumbent must work in structural engineering with a focus on computational mechanics and follow a career in this field. A devoted mentorship team will guide the incumbent, and their career development depends on their academic achievements in teaching, development of a national and international research profile, and societal impact.

The incumbent will be appointed in accordance with the regulations of the new Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and will be required to enroll for and complete a PhD as part of this appointment. The position comes with substantial support from the DHET. The appointment is also subject to the conditions as set by the DHET and must be read in conjunction with the nGAP requirements of the DHET.

• Teaching and curriculum development in structural engineering and informatics.
• Postgraduate study guidance and research in structural engineering and informatics.
• Relevant academic and departmental coordination and administration.
• Onderrig en kurrikulumontwikkeling in strukturele ingenieurswese en informatika.
• Nagraadse studieleiding en navorsing in strukturele ingenieurswese en informatika.
• Toepaslike akademiese en departementele koördinering en administrasie.

• An applicable BEng or BScEng degree in civil engineering or a closely related field enabling professional registration with the Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• A background in structural engineering and a master's degree in a relevant engineering or applied science field with a focus on computational mechanics.
• Expertise in the application of information technology in structural engineering, including through computer programming.
• An excellent academic study record.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• The incumbent must qualify to register for a PhD in civil engineering at the latest in 2027 and graduate within four years.

• Kundigheid in die toe passing van inligtingstegnologie in strukturele ingenieurswese, insluitend deur rekenaarprogrammering.
• Uitstekende mondelinge en skriftelike kommunikasievaardighede in Engels.
• Die posbekleër moet kwalifiseer om, op die laatste, in 2027 vir 'n PhD in siviele ingenieurswese te registreer en binne vier jaar gradueer.
