We have a fantastic opportunity to work on some of the biggest and most complex projects in the water industry in a generation, shaping the future of the water environment across the UK. We're looking for an Environment & Water Quality Technical Specialist to join our team and support the delivery of nationally significant water infrastructure projects.

LET'S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

You’ll play a key role in the Strategic Resource Options (SRO) programme
, working with other water companies, regulators and third‑party water users to reduce drought risk across the UK. Severn Trent is involved in seven major schemes funded through AMP8, including the flagship Grand Union Canal Transfer and Severn to Thames Transfer
.

What You'll Do
  • Contribute to novel, once‑in‑a‑generation water resource schemes that deliver long‑term water security across the UK and shape the future of the water industry.
  • Identify and develop innovative solutions to address environmental and water quality challenges alongside internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the wider SRO team and collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams across Severn Trent and beyond, to deliver environmental and water quality investigations for SRO schemes.
  • Manage technical work packages delivered by consultants, ensuring alignment with RAPID guidance and consenting processes.
  • Engage with regulators and stakeholders to support priorities, report regularly, and meet compliance requirements.
  • Undertake high‑level environmental screening and assessments, contributing to WRMP optioneering.
  • Oversee environmental and water quality monitoring programmes and analyse results to assess environmental and water quality impacts.
  • Identify environmental/water quality risks and opportunities, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement solutions.

You’ll be based at our Head Office in Coventry
, and work within our Strategic Resource Options and Property team. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week with flexibility to work from home at times
.

Essential WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • A degree in a relevant environmental, science or hydrology‑related discipline.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret technical reports for diverse audiences.
  • Proven track record of collaborative working with consultants, engineers, regulators, and/or stakeholders.
  • Curiosity and an appetite to learn, with the drive to find opportunities and take ownership of delivering solutions.
Desired
  • Experience in infrastructure planning/design, SEA/EIA, HRA, WFD or environmental permitting.
  • Experience in DCO, WRMP processes and/or the water industry.
  • Project management and budget control experience.
  • Working towards chartership (or already chartered).
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
