About

The Role

You will champion DFMA principles, lead a team of designers, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver industry‑leading solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of Mechanical Designers to deliver project‑specific design outputs.
  • Ensure all design work complies with WGM QA policies, procedures, and client specifications.
  • Drive the adoption of DFMA (Design for Manufacture & Assembly) and modular assembly methodologies to improve quality, reduce onsite time, and streamline fabrication.
  • Conduct site surveys and gather relevant technical data.
  • Check and approve design packages produced by the team.

  • Support Continuous Professional Development, keeping abreast of new technologies and industry advancements.
  • Identify improvements that enhance working methods, design quality, or project efficiency.
  • Promote sustainable design approaches, including waste reduction, reuse, and refurbishment.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant British Standards, WiMES guidance, and regulations including CDM, DSEAR, and Confined Space requirements.
About You
  • 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical design, ideally within engineering, construction, or the Water Industry.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of DFMA and modular assembly.
  • The ability to embed DFMA and standardisation across project life cycles.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience coordinating and mentoring design teams.
  • A collaborative approach and ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and construction teams.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary
  • 32 days annual leave, rising to 36 with service
  • Enhanced pension scheme
  • Life assurance
