We are seeking a R&D S&E, Mechanical Engineering. The Weapon Interface & Controllers Department is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic, high-impact team. In this role, you will play a critical part in the design, troubleshooting, testing, qualification, and evaluation of weapon controller based electronic systems, which are the brains of a nuclear weapon, as well as supporting existing production systems.
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge nuclear deterrence programs that demand exceptional performance, reliability, and rigor. The role emphasizes hands-on implementation, system-level integration, and continuous improvement of design and qualification.
As a successful candidate, you will collaborate closely across multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust mechanical design and qualification solutions. You will actively engage in the design and trade space assessment of weapon interface and controller type of products. You will collaborate closely with the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) Production Agency (PA) to understand and influence functional and interface requirements, design elements, qualification testing, analysis, and production capabilities.

Salary Range$102,400 - $199,700
- Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
- A Bachelor s degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
The ideal R&D S&E, Mechanical Engineer candidate will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent.
- Technical background in complex mechanical components, including design and analysis of mechanical piece parts and assemblies.
- Experience working with mechanical environments including thermal, vibration, shock, etc.
