TheOpportunity
WSDOT is seeking a skilled and motivated Facilities Planner 2 to join our Northwest Region team in Shoreline, WA. Well-maintained facilities are essential to keeping Washington moving, and this role plays a key part in ensuring our buildings and sites are safe, functional, and ready to support critical transportation operations. The Facilities Planner 2 provides facility planning and program development support for existing state-owned facilities, while evaluating development opportunities to maximize space utilization for program delivery and equipment maintenance.
This position contributes directly to the efficiency and effectiveness of WSDOT operations by supporting maintenance and construction activities across Northwest Region sites and buildings—helping ensure our workforce has the infrastructure it needs to keep people and goods moving throughout Washington State.
- Independently works in all phases of planning the development, acquisition, modification, and expansion of structures and related facilities for maximum utilization by State government.
- Performs facility planning and program development for new and existing State facility sites and buildings.
- Prepares Architectural drawings using CAD computer software program and contract documents for region level construction and maintenance projects.
- Establishes capital and expense cost and hourly estimates, schedules, and coordinates resources required for work.
- Operate a WSDOT Vehicle to review sites and meet with site occupants.
- Prepares and coordinates facility and site conditions assessments for State sites and buildings to establish prioritization of facilities for renovation or replacement.
- Facilities Project Management
Experience:
Experience with large tenant improvement projects including scheduling, move sequencing, mover and contractor coordination. Knowledge of project management techniques, facility operations, maintenance and construction principles. Experience interpreting applicable codes and regulations, laws and statutes, and environmental requirements. - Software Proficiency: Ability to use CAD programs to layout building spaces and create simple building drawings.

Ability to lead facilities crews, including understanding of personnel rules and union contract rules. - Growth Mindset: Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth.

- A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a state-owned vehicle
- Construction Management & Controls: Experience in creating detailed construction schedules. Experience in creating detailed construction estimates in CSI format. Experience using AutoCAD 2015 or later versions.
