About the role

Balfour Beatty are looking for an experienced CAD Manager to join thier Power T&D division in Derby.

Role Purpose

Manage a team of CAD technicians to deliver projects within the Power Transmission & Distribution sector.

What you'll be doing

Lead and coordinate the day‑to‑day activities of the CAD team, ensuring all projects meet time, quality and budget objectives.

Accountabilities
  • Manage workload and resource by assigning tasks to the team. Ensure that tasks are delivered to budget and program balancing delivery against giving team members opportunity to learn new skills, arranging training where required.
  • Ensure compliance with the Group Minimum Engineering Expectations and that work is carried out in line with client and industry specifications.
  • Create workflow processes in line with quality procedures and ensure they are followed.
  • Monitor team technical performance, conduct and absence and carry out performance reviews if required.
  • Promote continuous improvement by encouraging the team to highlight good/bad practice and reviewing safety observation submissions.
  • Produce financial reports summarising team utilisation based on submitted timesheet data and forecast future revenue based on expected workload.
  • Produce/review structural drawing office estimates for tender projects.
  • Carry out Performance Development Reviews with team members.
  • Review performance and give feedback.
  • Review and set SMART objectives.
  • Discuss career pathways.
  • Review/produce development plans.
  • Create a succession plan and coach team members to be competent to stand in for the team leader role as required. Manage their own tasks and deliver them to program and budget.
  • Use CAD software to produce 2D & 3D models of structural steelwork and check the work of other CAD technicians.
  • Provide technical support to project stakeholders e.g. Site operatives, commercial team, fabricators.
  • Oversee large projects with more than four CAD technicians, managing resource and delivering tasks to program and budget.
  • Manage software used by the structural CAD team:
    • Manage licence assignments.
    • Regularly update CAD software.
    • Standardise CAD software & processes by creating templates and How to Guides for consistency.
    • Provide training both for new starters and existing users.
    • Manage cloud servers for collaborative working.
    • Use customisation and automation to improve efficiency.
    • Manage CAD data backup and security.
