Position: EST-209-26 - Building Surveyor

As building surveyor you will act as the technical expert on all building fabric related compliance and maintenance matters as part of the long term and life cycle replacement, adaptation and refurbishment projects. You will provide and lead the on condition surveys of existing buildings for both Canterbury and Medway Campuses. You will analyse the outputs from the condition survey of all buildings and estate to determine the Long Term Maintenance Plan and to share the findings of these with Campus Services colleagues.

You will be responsible for the hands on delivery of small works project requests to a high standard with proactive liaison with internal and external stakeholders/contractors and statutory bodies.

As a Building Surveyor you can expect to be involved in :
  • Offering operational support and professional advice as the technical expert on all building fabric related compliance and maintenance matters to the Campus Services department, identifying underlying reactive maintenance issues requiring long term and life cycle replacement, adaptation or refurbishment.
  • Taking ownership of condition surveys and co-ordinate the output of these in developing and updating the Long Term Maintenance programme. Maintain and update records as required including costs for future LTM work
  • Revieing, audit and maintain the University Fire Management Safety arrangements, including Fire Precaution Remedial works, Building Fire Manuals and actions arising from Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Acting as the Competent Person (Campus Accessibility) attend meetings and undertake regular periodic access audits to ensure accurate records are kept and campus accessibility is prioritised as part of a rolling programme of maintenance investment
  • Running projects of various sizes from cradle to grave including ensuring that specifications meet the desired outputs
What will you bring to the role ?
  • Degree in Building Surveying or BTEC/SQA Higher National Award / NVQ Level 4 along with substantial experience
  • Detailed understanding of building condition surveys and knowledge of long term maintenance programmes
  • Detailed knowledge of the requirements of the CDM regulations 2015 particularly in the role of ‘Designer’ and ‘Principal Designer’
  • Extensive knowledge of Equality Act and related accessibility legislation and best practice guidance
  • Comprehensive and current understanding of building construction related Health and Safety legislation
