R&D Packaging Specialist: Sustainability

To start with, the position of Packaging Specialist sits comfortably in the Packaging Sustainability Translation team within R&D. An incredible diverse team that helps each other learn, grow and develop. Just how we like it! And as a Packaging Specialist you will be asked to expands the scope of a traditional packaging technology specialist to incorporate the holistic elements of sustainability, as we all play significant roles in JDE Peet’s sustainability journey.

For this, we don’t just need you to be a knowledgeable professional but also strongly rely on your interpersonal skills as well as your drive for success. Know that you’ll have a crucial role in creating and protecting the impact we look for in our value chain. With this said we like you to take responsibility over the following tasks:

• Contribute towards translating JDE Peet’s sustainability commitments & project roadmaps into fruition
• Lead &/or support technology projects up to process build & implementation
• Provide technical support and leadership for New Product Development & Adaptation projects
• Support materials end-of-life solution delivery & understanding of geographic variability
• Build relationship network to effectively execute projects

We are looking for a proactive champion, who thrives on interfacing between technical expertise & the dynamic pursuit of more sustainable packaging, with a drive for excellence. Someone that holds themselves accountable and doesn’t shy away from responsibility. Given the nature of the role we feel it’s important for you to have a willingness to learn as well as a solid understanding of your own added value.

We thrive in diverse teams and look for people that appreciate that as much as we do. We can give you a list of “must haves”, however that’s not how we view your candidacy. We do, of course, take into consideration how much experience you have with packaging solutions development and a passion for sustainability but ultimately we look at the bigger picture.

But to give you a bit of guidance as to what we feel is needed in this role, we’ll share our “nice to have” list with you:

• 3 – 5 years’ of professional experience in packaging development
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Packaging Technology, Engineering, Food technology, Sustainability (or related discipline) – a Masters or PhD are advantageous but not a requirement
• Thorough understanding of packaging materials & waste management technologies including industry trends & developments
• Ability to work at pace and make quick decisions with an ambiguous environment is critical
• Business acumen with the ability to translate projects & initiatives into our commercial environment
