Job Description & How to Apply Below
The successful Design Engineer candidate will have experience within any area of the structural steelwork, sheet metal, metalwork or manufacturing derivatives. You will have a mechanical engineering qualification and experience in a similar role. You will also have experience in the use of Inventor, iLogic and Skeletal Modelling. There is one day working from home a week, with a 37.5 hours working week.
Due to sustained growth, a significant forward order workload and a continued commitment to be at the forefront of the industry, our client is searching for a talented and motivated Design Engineer who is a technical self-starter treating 3D modelling (using Autodesk Inventor) as engineering logic.
You will understand that the value of a model lies in its stability, preferring Skeletal (Top-Down) methodologies to eliminate the inefficiencies of "brittle" bottom-up assemblies. You will be given the autonomy to establish high-performance, automated workflows across a diverse range of challenging projects, from acoustic enclosures to complex structural steelwork. You will be building digital systems that drive our client’s physical production, in addition to day-to-day work for new design for manufacture contracts.
The Role
* Support the design department in establishing robust, parametric frameworks for both bespoke contract work and batch production, ensuring a "Right First Time" approach.
* Serve as a guardian of technical accuracy, ensuring that high-fidelity models and drawings reach the factory and site teams with zero-error tolerance and on schedule.
* Act as a technical bridge between Design, Projects, and Production, ensuring that your digital logic translates into a seamless procurement and manufacturing phase.
* Proactively utilize iLogic and Skeletal Modeling to transform design standards into a strategic asset, directly contributing to the business's long-term efficiency and competitive edge.
* Creation of Master Skeleton models to drive General Arrangement drawings, ensuring client approvals are based on stable, parametric geometry.
* Generation and issue of high-precision manufacturing models and drawings
* Production of specialized design information for site installation teams, specifically leveraging Sheet Metal and Frame Generator for 1:1 build accuracy.
* Proactively considering design alternatives to improve project performance, focusing on speed of construction and "Design for Manufacture" (DFM).
* Utilizing 3D analysis to highlight design issues or clashes to Project Managers and stakeholders before they reach production.
* Partnering with Project Managers and Business Development to provide technical design support and visualizations for winning new work.
* Undertaking initial site surveys and measures to capture the accurate data required to ground the Master Skeleton model in real-world constraints.
* Maintaining Financial Control by ensuring all designs align strictly with client specifications and project budgets to avoid "scope creep."
* Generating technical schedules and intelligent Parts Lists to ensure the purchasing team can secure materials and equipment within project timescales.
* Executing any other duties required to ensure the smooth delivery of the Projects department's goals
The Person
* The successful candidate will possess a mechanical engineering qualification and demonstrable experience in a similar role
* Work under your own initiative with a strong team-working ethic, contributing to a dynamic group and setting the standard for design excellence.
* Maintain a strong understanding of CDM regulations, ensuring all designs proactively account for health, safety, and environmental factors during manufacture and installation.
* Maximise the use of IT systems (Inventor/Vault/ERP) to ensure accurate, robust, and auditable project control.
* Work to attain optimum performance and efficiency within the Project Team and all associated areas of design responsibility.
* Act as a clear and effective communicator (written and oral), bridging the gap between complex 3D logic and practical project requirements
* Promote and represent the Company at all times, setting a high personal example of professionalism and technical integrity.
* Proactively contribute to a harmonious and productive working environment through effective communication and team-working techniques.
* Adhere strictly to all Company policies, including HSWEQ and ISO procedures
* Undertake duties consistent with your employment in full accordance with UK / international laws
* Complete tasks and responsibilities as assigned, to support evolving business needs.
* The ability to visualize 3D space and mechanical movements
* Minimum of 1 year experience in the use of Inventor 3D software with evidence of use
* Demonstrable experience in Skeletal/Top-Down Modeling and iLogic automation and knowledge of Frame Generator, fold logic, and K-Factors.
* Ability to build "unbreakable" parametric models where one change updates the entire…
