About the role
National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK's transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC Interconnectors that connect the UK's energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK.
As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we're working on developing new projects to ensure that we are able to meet the UK's future demands for greener energy solutions.
We are currently recruiting for a Principal Resilience Engineer to lead on several projects designed to improve the resilience of the Interconnector operations.
As a Principal Resilience Engineer you will work through all stages of the project lifecycle, from technical investigations into known issues, scoping possible solutions, conducting cost benefit analysis, developing implementation plans and then leading the delivery of these plans.
You will play a leading role in ensuring that Interconnector operations have robust resilience plans in place and are able to respond to a wide range of events and challenges. By helping to improve resilience across our business you will be contributing to our mission of delivering high availability and reliability across our interconnector portfolio as we make a significant contribution to the security of the UK's energy supply.
As an accomplished engineer with a variety of technical and project experience to draw upon, you will bring a breadth of technical understanding and problem-solving skills to multi-disciplinary delivery teams. You will also play a key role in supporting teams of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) deliver their own resilience enhancing plans, to cost and time, ensuring that benefits to the business are delivered.
The role is hybrid so we'd hope to see you in the office based in Warwick and/or at one of our operational sites (located in Lincolnshire, Bedlington, Sellindge) two days per week as well as working from home and you're welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you.
What you'll do- Technical Project Management:
Lead and support a wide range of technical projects focused on improving the operational resilience of our interconnector portfolio. You will ensure that projects are delivered to time and cost, with benefits realised and captured, ensuring that progress and risks are reported effectively. - Technical Investigation. Lead technical investigations into resilience issues and incidents; identify potential solutions around changes to technology, processes, people and data. Prepare solution options as potential new projects and conduct cost benefit analysis to support project commissioning decisions.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with internal teams, government agencies, and industry partners to promote best practices in resilience and identify technical solutions that can be applied to Interconnectors. Coordinate across Asset Management, Operations, Systems and Cyber, Construction and Group functions to identify resilience issues and help to develop mitigation plans. - Innovation:
Work as directed to develop and assess novel solutions and ways of work that could drive innovation across the business in order to enhance resilience and/or increase availability and reliability.
- Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent with a considerable breadth and depth of proven experience.
- Experience of delivering projects within an operationally-focused engineering environment.
- Technical investigative skills - gathering evidence, developing options and presenting recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong stakeholder management experience, supporting transformation and change across multiple departments
- Experience of conducting cost benefit analysis and developing options appraisals.
- Ability to work with ambiguity and develop, creating relevant analysis and delivering projects.
- Demonstrable competence in at least one of these technical disciplines - (civils, HVDC cables, asset management, transformers, HVAC systems, operational control systems, cyber security etc) and broad competence…
