Role DescriptionCivil Engineer, PE (Transmission/Substation/Roadways). The role is hybrid-based but will consist of traveling to substations in the Los Angeles, Pomona, and Long Beach areas.
Join our growing firm, which is dedicated to high-quality, service excellence, and social/environmental responsibility. We are seeking a highly organized and technically proficient Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership and civil engineering expertise for projects involving grading, drainage, paving, roadways, water/sewer systems, fencing, retaining walls, and other land development components. Assigned projects support SCE’s Transmission and Substation facilities, including access roads, substations, and energy storage sites.
KeyIdentifiers for the Position
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Possesses eight or more years of experience in relevant civil/land development design.
- Experienced with providing engineering construction field support
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and Microsoft tools
- California Professional Engineering License
- Experience in land development for electrical substation facilities and transmission access in varied terrain
- Familiarity with road and highway design
- Familiarity with storm damage response and mitigation
- Skilled in contractor management and purchase order oversight
- Knowledge of California permitting processes
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Experience with ArcGIS
- Experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
- Performs assignments in specialized/unique areas where engineering precedents require broad experience.
- Directs or performs engineering tasks associated with a critical engineering project or several small projects with complex features.
- Manages the evaluation, development, and implementation of capital projects that have moderate financial and operational impact.
- May serve as an expert for the organization in a specific area or responsibility.
- Participates on project teams and may lead some teams.
- Provides training and direction to other engineers.
- Direct involvement in tasks necessary for project execution. Identifies problems and solutions. Collaborates to establish project objectives, timelines, risks, milestones, deliverables and budgets.
- Leads civil/structural engineering analysis, calculations, design, detailing, and CAD-supported drafting for SCE facilities.
- Performs site visits to provide construction support and/or conduct inspections, while gathering data, performing engineering analysis, and preparing calcs, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred
- 7+ years of experience in Civil Engineering
- 1+ years of Experience in Project Management/ Project Engineering
- Quality Control expertise
- Experience in civil engineering projects
- Stormwater Management and Site Development skills
- Knowledge of relevant design and engineering software
- Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and regulations
- Knowledge of Project Management principles
- Proactive approach to project management
- Basic knowledge of project scheduling
- Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, One Drive)
- Ability to work well in a team, as well as independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to adapt and reprioritize on a day-to-day basis depending on new or existing challenges that may arise
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
