Overview
As a Civil Project Manager at Summit, you are responsible for external and internal management of projects from the proposal phase through project completion, in addition to engineering and design tasks. The Project Manager is responsible for planning and conducting independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Serves as the firm’s direct contact with the client and is responsible for developing and maintaining a positive relationship between the client and Summit.
The Project Manager is responsible for internal project organization, scheduling, and budgeting and responsible for successful project completion and maintaining client satisfaction with the firm’s efforts. The Project Manager is responsible for business development and generating new work for the firm.
Salary Range: $130,000 to $180,000 annually
Duties and ResponsibilitiesIn addition to duties and responsibilities of Project Engineer:
- Responsible for preparation of project proposals.
- Establishes direction of work to be performed and holds staff accountable for executing on schedule and on budget.
- Prepares project specifications including conditions of contract and General Conditions.
- Performs and/or checks work performed by other staff.
- Provides input to the Principal in Charge and the Division Manager regarding staffing decisions for a project.
- Maintains close communication with the client, making the client aware of progress, problems, and scope changes. Develops a trusting relationship with the client.
- Gives clear directions to others. Communicates clearly with staff, clients, contractors, and outside consultants.
- Responsible for meeting project budget and schedule objectives and provides input to project team and Principal in Charge regarding status of project and budget. Takes action to seek approval for additional services prior to beginning work.
- Performs regular operational tasks that support the overall health of the firm and informs the management team of firm performance (i.e., invoicing, backlog, contract management).
- Provides mentoring and training for staff in Summit systems. Provides training or serves as resource to staff regarding engineering design principles and concepts and/or problem resolution.
- Provides input to the management team regarding staff performance reviews and training needs.
- Coordinates in-house and/or external consultant-based design teams as required for the successful completion of the work.
- Effectively manages several projects at one time.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum five years of related project management and engineering experience.
- 5 years minimum of experience in a related field.
- California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or equivalent demonstrated capabilities and experience.
- Understands agency submittal requirements and knows requirements and permitting process.
- Demonstrates a proficient knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam Civil 3D, or Revit.
- Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Understands the issues and concepts of design of other disciplines that are involved in the projects being managed.
- Proficient with use of computers including spreadsheets, word processing, and engineering software and ability to prepare electronic design documents.
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License.
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
