Senior Highway Engineer

Our client, is currently seeking a Senior Highway Design Engineer to join their team. This contract role will involve designing and implementing several highway improvement schemes across Hampshire. The role requires a dynamic professional with extensive experience in highway engineering and a keen eye for detail.

Key Responsibilities:

Assisting with the collection, assessment, and dissemination of information essential for successful scheme preparation and implementation.
Preparing or assisting in the preparation of technical design and contract documents for highways and civil engineering projects.
Supervising, managing, programming, and measuring the performance of the design team and junior staff to deliver projects within agreed timescales, budgets, and specifications.
Checking design work produced by the design team, junior staff, external consultants, or developers.
Preparing or assisting in the preparation of budget assessments and estimates.
Liaising with contractors, public utilities, and other relevant bodies for project design and programming.
Representing the client at public meetings, carrying out consultations, and providing necessary advice.
Maintaining a strong focus on Health and Safety for oneself and others at all times.

Job Requirements:

RQF Level 6-7 (or equivalent) in a relevant Civil Engineering field.
Preferably a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with an appropriate body.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Extensive experience in the design and construction of highway projects.
Knowledge of relevant specifications, policies, and procedures.
Competency in using CAD software (Civil 3D, MX, AutoCAD etc.) and drainage modelling software.
Valid Driving Licence (category

B) required.

Decision-Making Areas:

Feasibility assessment.
Conducting risk assessments including project risk and health and safety risk.
Solving design and site-based issues.
Supervising the activities of engineers and technicians.

Working Conditions:

Hybrid working model with a mixture of working from home and office, along with infrequent visits to live sites.
Communicating with stakeholders in a challenging environment.
Ability to fulfil the travel requirements of the role.
