Join Terracon as a Traveling Construction Materials Technician II. The role involves 100% travel throughout the Southeast division, including Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and coastal Georgia, working on high-profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, and wind farms.
General Responsibilities- Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel).
- Communicate results with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors.
- Transport material samples with documentation to laboratory for testing and analysis.
- Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Terracon Project Manager.
- Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
- Adhere to strict safety standards and perform pre‑task planning.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Perform testing, observation, and inspection following training and procedures.
- Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
- Verify data accuracy before submission to the Project Manager.
- Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
- Assist higher level technicians on complex tasks.
- Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
- Operate a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow safety rules and practices; report safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
- Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- ACI certification in one or more of the following:
Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician. - Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils) or Geotechnical.
- NICET Level II in Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist categories.
- ICC certification in Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
- American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing.
- Other national, regional, state, and local materials‑related certifications with experience and written examination will also be considered.
This position has been categorized as a "Remote Only" role. Remote employees do not have a designated office workspace and typically work from home or another location.
SalaryNational standard salary range: $19.50–$27.50 per hour. Final compensation may be adjusted based on location and individual qualifications.
