Job Description
Parsons is seeking a Drainage Engineer I or II to work on a wide variety of small to large-scale transportation projects across the U.S., including design-build and design-bid-build highway and roadway projects.
You will work in a flexible, team-oriented environment, performing drainage and hydraulic design and supporting state DOT and other transportation clients. We value engineers who are versatile, proactive, and strong communicators with solid analytical and coordination skills.
LocationWhile this is a remote position, candidates MUST BE BASED in the region:
Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, or Tennessee
- Perform and/or lead drainage and culvert design for state DOT roadway and highway projects nationwide.
- Develop drainage and irrigation designs, including hydraulic and hydrologic modeling and drainage calculations.
- Prepare and review construction details, erosion and sediment control plans, quantity calculations and cost-related estimates, engineering analyses and technical reports.
- Produce engineering deliverables such as design calculations and reports, drawings and CAD models, specifications and procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations and technical memoranda.
- Define and manage scopes of work, budgets, and schedules; plan tasks and report status to project management.
- Provide technical guidance to CAD Designers/Drafters, junior engineers, and other team members.
- Support related civil/transportation engineering activities as needed.
- May serve as a discipline lead on small to mid-size projects and may supervise one or more junior staff, including providing performance input.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
- EIT certification
- 3+ years of related experience in roadway/highway drainage design
- Proficiency with CAD and related engineering software
- Experience with Micro Station or AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with a combination of hydraulic/hydrologic modeling tools, such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, Bentley InRoads Storm & Sanitary, Bentley Storm
CAD, Aquaveo Watershed Modeling System (WMS), NRCS WinTR-55, Bentley Flow Master, FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox, EPA SWMM (Storm Water Management Model)
- PE license in any U.S. state highly preferred
- Direct experience on state DOT transportation projects
- Experience with highway and roadway drainage systems (inlets, storm sewers, channels, culverts, detention/retention, etc.)
- Drainage systems design for land development projects
- Obtaining canal and stormwater permits
