Overview
Vertex is currently accepting applications for a Regional Director - Geotechnical Engineer (Western Canada). Successful candidate will work closely with our Vertex offices throughout Western Canada and will be responsible for the technical execution of geotechnical projects. The candidate will report to the Director – Engineering.
Candidate Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Geological or Civil Engineering. A master’s degree is considered an asset.
- 6 to 10 years of professional work experience in the field of geotechnical engineering, local Canadian experience is strongly preferred.
- P.Eng. designation in good standing with APEGA is required.
- Experience in the use of commercially available software packages such as Slope/W, GINT, Plaxis, Uni-Settle, L-Pile, A-Pile as well as familiarity with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Google Earth and Microsoft products is required.
- Experience with field investigation techniques such as soil logging (auger drilling, sonic drilling, etc.).
- Experience in developing client relationships and business development to expand business in the geotechnical field is required.
- Experience growing a consulting business and managing a consulting P&L is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Lead geotechnical investigations for infrastructure, commercial, residential and energy projects
- Interpret field and lab data to develop design parameters and recommendations
- Prepare and review detailed geotechnical reports and proposals
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients—building trust through regular communication, meetings, and progress updates
- Build and maintain strong client relationships with engineering firms, developers, contractors, and government agencies
- Collaborate with other disciplines and support business development activities
- Mentor junior engineers and review their work for accuracy and completeness
- Support hiring, training, and performance development within the team
- Expansion of client base and work opportunities in geotechnical space across Alberta primarily and expanding further into Canada with business growth.
- Other duties as directed by your direct supervisor or manager.
- This position is based out of Sherwood Park.
- Vertex allows a hybrid structure for working from home.
- The position is permanent and Full-time (40hrs/week)
