About The Role Are you an experienced Procurement professional ready to make a real impact on one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure programmes? Balfour Beatty’s Power T&D team is looking for a Senior Buyer to play a key role in delivering the Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) project — helping to shape our supply chain, strengthen supplier relationships and drive sustainable, value-led outcomes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the heart of a major multi-utilities project, collaborating with a wide network of internal teams, partners and innovative suppliers.
- Supply Chain & Market Engagement
- Identifying and engaging new suppliers, including local SMEs, to promote social value and best-value delivery.
- Monitoring market trends, risks and developments to inform strategy and drive competitive advantage.
- Supporting supply chain capacity growth and running engagement events.
- Tendering & Contract Award
- Developing procurement strategies aligned to business objectives.
- Preparing and issuing RFQs/ITTs.
- Conducting supplier due diligence, commercial checks and tender evaluations.
- Making recommendations for contract awards and negotiating high‑quality, value-driven agreements.
- Contract & Supplier Performance Management
- Building long-term, performance-led relationships with key suppliers.
- Monitoring performance to ensure compliance with commercial, quality, HSEQ+S and sustainability standards.
- Helping to resolve supply issues and providing regular dashboards and reports to project teams.
- Collaboration & Project Delivery
- Acting as a key liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Managing procurement schedules and supporting project risk management.
- Supporting wider Power T&D procurement initiatives and work-winning opportunities.
- Leadership
- Providing guidance and support to procurement colleagues, promoting a collaborative, high‑performance culture.
- Championing Balfour Beatty’s values, Zero Harm principles and sustainability goals.
- Experience in Supply Chain Management within Utilities or Construction.
- Strong analytical, communication and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of NEC subcontracting and commercial processes.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with suppliers and stakeholders at all levels.
- A proactive mindset, with a focus on delivering value, efficiency and continuous improvement.
- A relevant degree, MCIPS qualification (or working towards), or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to travel across the UK.
- Smart working, giving you more flexibility such as staggered start and finish times, with up to 40% remote working, where roles allow.
