Project Development Manager – Renewable Energy (Italy)

A leading international renewable energy IPP is seeking a Project Development Manager to drive the development of wind, solar, and battery energy storage (BESS) projects across Italy. This is a high-impact role offering full ownership of projects from early-stage development through Ready-To-Build (RTB), all within a fast-paced, growing, and mission-driven environment.
About the RoleAs a key member of the development team, you will lead all activities related to greenfield, mid-stage, and mature renewable energy projects. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to progress projects efficiently and compliantly through all development milestones.
Responsibilities- Lead development activities for wind, solar, and BESS projects in Italy through to Ready-To-Build (RTB)
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and timelines, ensuring alignment across internal departments
- Coordinate external developers, engineering firms, consultants, authorities, and advisors to secure required permits and approvals
- Identify and mitigate development risks—technical, financial, regulatory, legal, and environmental
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Contribute to improving development processes, supporting portfolio growth, project scalability, and technical/financial optimisation
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in renewable energy project development (solar, wind, or BESS)
- Degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- Strong understanding of Italy’s renewable energy regulatory landscape, permitting processes, and grid connection principles
- Proven ability to independently manage complex projects, documentation, budgets, and external interfaces
- Solid knowledge of industry standards, administrative procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Highly motivated, with strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills
- Experience working in an international environment is an advantage
- Native or fluent Italian, with strong professional English skills
- Availability to travel within Italy when needed
