REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL FORESTER OR FORESTER IN TRAINING
Econ Consulting is seeking a qualified Professional Forester (RPF) or Forester in Training (FIT) to join our established forestry team. This is a permanent, full time position based in the Comox Valley. Econ specializes in the management of community forests, woodlots and other small to medium sized forest tenures. We provide professional and technical services to licensees, government and private land owners.
We are seeking a team member with an interest in all aspects of professional forestry work. The full scope of our services and range of clients and projects results in a diversity of professional field and office work. The successful candidate must be able to think critically about forest management issues and aspire to continuous improvement within the profession. They must also have excellent organizational, time management and communication skills in order to coordinate and complete multiple projects to meet client goals.
may include, but not be limited to:
- All aspects of silviculture, engineering and project supervision fieldwork.
- Development of operational plans (cruise plans, harvest and road construction plans, pre-harvest prescriptions/site plans, stand tending prescriptions, fire hazard assessments).
- Preparation and submission of permit applications including cutting permits, road permits, special use permits and others.
- Silviculture surveys and reporting activities and milestones to RESULTS.
- Preparation of higher-level plans (WLP, FSP, MP, CWRP) including inventory and timber supply review.
- Client, subcontractor, First Nation, government, public, and stakeholder liaison.
- Planning, budgeting and project management.
- Local and remote fieldwork as required to achieve the aforementioned responsibilities (field shifts are generally not more than one week and are located on Vancouver Island).
- Be a Forester in Training or a Registered Professional Forester in good standing with Forest Professionals BC.
- Be committed to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Possess solid technical and analytical field skills.
- Have strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Road Eng, Arc Map, and Microsoft Office.
- Be physically fit, motivated and able to work independently or in a team setting in all conditions.
- Possess a valid BC driver’s license.
- Be eligible to work in Canada.
