OverviewWe are seeking a field technician to perform on‑site review of poles and other electric facilities for our aerial and underground distribution projects. The role involves collaborating with design teams, reviewing job details, and interacting with property owners as needed. Remote work is based in the Richmond, Virginia area and field work is required; candidates must be located within 2 hours of Richmond.
Responsibilities- Equip using: digital camera, measuring wheel and/or laser range finder, smart device, laptop or mobile phone, angle finder.
- Conduct field review of electric facilities, capturing required data.
- Identify pole markings (height / class, birthmark).
- Record centerline measurements, offsets and mile markers for permitting.
- Document attachment heights, down guys and span guys.
- Sketch site with measurements relative to obstructions.
- Note existing equipment.
- Obtain GPS location and photographs.
- Properly file data, save photos, scan notes, and upload to system.
- Provide daily status reports.
- Conduct safety briefing discussions, identifying critical work steps, hazards, and control barriers.
- Associate’s degree preferred or 2 years of experience with power distribution systems and/or telecommunications.
- Valid driver’s license with clean record for the past 5 years.
- AutoCAD experience.
- Familiarity with IKE Device, ikeGPS, and/or Hot Stick.
- High‑level understanding of utility, telecommunications, or power design engineering.
- Knowledge of NEC and NESC standards.
- Experience with Katapult or similar equipment.
This position may require significant time standing or walking on uneven ground, climbing ladders or working at heights, working in tight spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to all‑weather conditions.
