Overview
Ship Explosives Safety Consultant. An organisation operating within the defence sector is expanding its explosives safety and high hazard facilities capability to support a growing and diverse UK client base. This is a permanent consultancy position focused on delivering assurance, safety case development and specialist advice across complex shipborne explosives environments. The role sits within a specialist WOME and high hazard facilities team and centres on MOD ship explosives safety activity.
You will contribute to the development and maintenance of explosives safety cases, hazard and threat assessments and certification support, while also providing wider high hazard facility safety management input. The work involves close collaboration with technical specialists, delivery teams and defence stakeholders, with an emphasis on quality, rigour and professional judgement.
- Develop and support MOD ship explosives safety cases
- Deliver ship explosives hazard and threat assessments
- Contribute to WOME ship integration risk assessments
- Support magazine material assessments and residual risk management
- Apply MOD explosives regulations and defence standards in practice
- Produce clear technical reports and memoranda for client assurance
- Proven experience in MOD ship explosives safety
- Strong understanding of explosives hazard and risk management
- Working knowledge of MOD explosives regulations and certification
- Background in defence, military or specialist consultancy environments
- Hazard and risk analysis techniques such as HAZOP, FMECA or FTA
- Knowledge of COSHH, DSEAR and ATEX assessments
- Experience supporting business development activity
- Membership of a relevant professional institution
You will bring a professional and detail focused approach, strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively, including when working from home. Regular travel to UK offices and client sites is required, with occasional overseas travel.
Your work can be based at offices in Bristol, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Cardiff, Liverpool or Falmouth as well as home working. The working pattern is hybrid.
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be British nationals and able to obtain UK Security Clearance.
