Field Service Engineer – Heavy Plant

Package: £18.37 per hour + overtime + van + benefits

Our client is a globally established manufacturer of heavy construction equipment, supplying high-performance machinery into sectors including construction, quarrying, and major infrastructure. They focus on engineering quality, product reliability, and technician development, supporting customers through a structured service network and investing in modern diesel and electric equipment. They are recruiting a Field Service Engineer to support their expanding UK service operation.

As a mobile engineer, you’ll service, diagnose, and repair heavy plant machinery in the field. The role focuses on excavators and wheel loaders ranging from 9T to 95T
, including newer electric models. You’ll be home-based with a fully equipped service van, working at customer and end-user sites. Travel is required, with overnight stays and training attendance as needed, supported by a dedicated admin and technical team.

• Service, repair, and fault-find on heavy construction equipment in the field
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on excavators and wheel loaders
• Support machine commissioning, inspections, and handovers
• Attend customer sites including construction, quarrying, and infrastructure projects
• Complete job reports, service records, and warranty documentation accurately
• Liaise with internal teams to support technical resolution and product feedback
• Represent the business professionally and maintain strong customer relationships

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Heavy Engineering, or similar
• Proven experience working on heavy plant machinery (excavators, loaders, or similar equipment)
• Strong diagnostic skills across hydraulics, mechanical systems, and electrics
• Comfortable working independently in a field-based role
• Customer-focused, professional, and confident communicating on-site
• Experience with main dealers or premium construction equipment brands is advantageous
• Quarry Passport beneficial (support available if required)
• Exposure to electric or hybrid plant equipment is an advantage
• Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK

• £18.37 per hour + enhanced overtime rates (time and a half)
• Company service van and fuel card
• Accommodation and expenses covered when staying away
• Monday–Friday working hours (7:00am–3:30pm)
• No call-out rota and minimal weekend work
