Job Description

You will have autonomy to work within established processes and procedures but refer to others and are subject to supervision.

A full UK manual driving licence is required for this role.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an Asset Performance team in the UK’s biggest environmental organisation.

We manage flood risk assets across the Thames area to ensure they protect our communities from the risk of flooding. As professional Asset Managers, you will be part of a team managing the whole lifecycle of our flood risk management assets, i.e. planning, delivery, maintenance, decommissioning.

Your enthusiasm and positive attitude will help you find solutions that deliver our priorities. You will help manage our asset data to ensure it is of the best quality and can be relied on to inform our future investment programme. This will include site work to understand our asset base and to collect, analyse and interpret information to ensure we manage it well.

You will be trained to undertake inspections of our assets.

We are seeking applicants with a passion for asset management or engineering and a drive to protect our communities at risk of flooding. You will have asset or data management experience, preferably in the water environment.

Role Duties
  • Guiding, advising and supporting team members and others, to ensure that decisions are made on sound technical grounds, are in line with required legislation / best practice, and minimise risks associated with our assets. Works proactively with others to identify and resolve issues.
  • Producing work orders for our internal field teams.
  • Carrying out Public Safety Assessments.
  • You will be an excellent team player and make decisions based on data and evidence. Great verbal and written communication skills are essential as you will be liaising with customers, colleagues and members of the public. You will be completing site work, which will include walking long distances as part of asset inspections, sometimes in adverse weather.
The Team

This role will have a base location of Oxford. It will involve working across two catchments which will bring lots of variety to your working day and you will be supported by a senior Catchment Advisor. This role is a mix of office based and site visit attendance for asset inspections and assessments. There may be opportunities for home working.

Experience / Skills Required

This role requires excellent organisation and prioritisation skills to ensure our assets are maintained to the required standards using our Asset Information Management System and other IT systems. You will be proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.

You may be a recent graduate or have experience with an organisation in the environmental/water sector. Experience with one of the following would be advantageous:

  • Data management
  • Engineering
  • Asset management

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. Incident response is an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. Further information on incident response can be found within your candidate pack. You will be required to have an incident role (Flood Incident Duty Officer) and make yourself available to respond to incidents which will involve some out of hours work.

This will involve full training and may attract an additional payment. Alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
