Senior Project Developer

We develop, invest in, build, and operate renewable and low-carbon energy production facilities, as well as flexible power and electricity transmission solutions.

Our portfolio includes technologies for low-carbon electricity generation (wind, solar, hydro, biomass), power system flexibility (battery energy storage systems, pumped storage), and carbon footprint reduction (electric mobility, hydrogen, off-grid solutions).

In Southern Africa, we've been operating since 2009 with offices in Cape Town, Gqeberha, and Johannesburg. We currently manage four wind farms totaling 142 MW in operation and 1.5 GW of wind, solar, and battery energy storage assets under construction. Our ambition is to close 5 GW of renewable projects by 2030, including hydropower, wind, solar, and BESS projects.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Developer to lead the development of renewable energy projects, including Wind, Solar PV, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Your primary mandate will be to secure all land rights, authorisations, permits, and licenses required to lawfully build and operate projects. This role involves strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and risk management to bring projects to financial close efficiently.

• Identify and originate new renewable energy projects
• Conduct desktop analysis, site visits, and negotiate land lease agreements
• Secure permits, licenses, and authorisations from relevant authorities
• Manage commercial negotiations for agreements (land, servitudes, environmental, grid connections)
• Oversee development budgets and consultant costs
• Engage with stakeholders, including government departments and affected parties
• Implement risk mitigation strategies for permitting and licensing
• Coordinate due diligence for multiple projects and establish development plans
• Support bid submissions for REIPPPP and private off-taker RFPs
• Assist during financial close and ensure compliance with IFC Performance Standards
• Mentor junior developers and foster strong external relationships

• BTech, BSc/Engineering, BCom, or any relevant bachelor's degree

• Minimum 8 years as a Renewable Energy Project Developer in South Africa
  OR
• Minimum 5 years in large infrastructure project management, environmental consulting, or town planning

Technical:

• Project management, negotiation, and contract management skills
• Knowledge of South African rural context, environmental law, and BBBEE codes
• Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)

Behavioral:

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence without direct authority
