Job Description

Our Parsons San Diego, California office is hiring for an Associate Traffic Engineer. The role supports traffic systems design engineering projects in the State of California. This position is hybrid remote (work from home 1-2 days per week) with reports to the local office 3 days per week. The role is open to new or recent graduates from a degreed civil engineering program with a preferred focus in traffic or transportation engineering.

You'll Be Doing
  • Perform a variety of basic engineering support assignments requiring fundamental knowledge of design/drafting standards, practices, and techniques.
  • Support traffic engineering studies, including volume forecasting and capacity analysis, using tools and training gained in studies or prior internship experience.
  • Support clients such as Caltrans and other regional city and county clients.
  • Utilize analysis software such as Synchro and Vissim.
  • Use a CAD workstation to prepare engineering drawings (basic arrangements, layouts, as‑builts, etc.) from rough sketches or general engineering information according to established standards and procedures.
  • Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.
  • Assignments are designed to help develop practical knowledge of the highway engineering discipline.
Required Skills
  • 4‑year Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering desirable, but not required.
  • Prior internships in traffic engineering highly desirable.
  • Prior classwork training with traffic engineering focus highly preferred.
  • Literate in PC software, working knowledge of CAD, and other computer software used to complete design assignments.
  • Any work experience with traffic systems analysis is a plus.
Desired Skills
  • Solid aptitude for learning and applying basic transportation engineering systems design.
  • Some experience with AutoCAD or Microstation or Synchro and Vissim desirable.
  • Good verbal communication skills.

Salary Range: $26.25 - $45.96
