DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Civil Engineer (Transportation) in our Roadway Design Squad, your role will involve the preparation and technical review of comprehensive right‑of‑way and construction plans for various highway projects. This includes designing limited access multi‑lane highways, two‑lane highways in new locations, and reconstructing existing two‑lane highways, as well as realigning approaches for bridge improvement initiatives. You will assess existing field and site conditions to identify design constraints that may hinder compliance with PennDOT specifications, providing necessary engineering analysis for senior staff when Technically Infeasible Forms or Design Exception Requests are needed.
Your expertise will also be crucial in identifying potential safety issues, allowing you to recommend design modifications or countermeasures for consideration by senior engineers or the squad leader. Additionally, you will develop precise cost estimates for assigned projects based on historical data and recent bid results, ensuring that all estimates are mathematically accurate and encompass all relevant work items. Furthermore, you will be responsible for creating detailed plans that cover roadway design, traffic control, and erosion and sedimentation control, determining the quantities of work required to successfully complete each project.
