What You ll Do

Schafer Retail Solutions is seeking a driven and creative Product Designer / Design Engineer to join the Schafer Design Team. This role will collaborate closely with design and production teams to design, engineer, and prepare products for manufacture within the Lottery and Point of Sale (POS) industry. The Design Engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end design and development of retail and POS products.

This is a flexible, hybrid role, with an expectation of being on-site a minimum of two (2) days per week. The employee must also be available to work on-site any working day when projects require hands-on input. Remote work may be performed outside of these requirements.

• Design components and products for retail environments, including:
  • Concept development
  • CAD modeling
  • Realistic rendering
  • Prototyping
  • Research and development
  • Testing and quality control
• Prepare and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Develop detailed engineering drawings for manufacturing.
• Prepare 2D and 3D production files for manufacture.
• Lead projects from concept through production, maintaining ownership and accountability.
• Conduct product handoff and sign-off with production teams.
• Support the design team with concept development based on supplied briefs.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to support project execution.
• Ensure design intent is clearly communicated throughout the manufacturing process.
• Stay current with trends in POS and lottery product design and manufacturing.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning new skills and improving processes.
• Manage time effectively to meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
• Work independently while contributing positively within a team environment.
• Maintain a professional, enthusiastic, and solution-oriented approach.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role within manufacturing, engineering, or product design.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing and production processes.
• Proficiency in Solid Works CAD (minimum 2 years).
• Experience creating component and assembly drawings, engineering drawings and realistic renderings.
• Experience with Autodesk software and 2D file preparation.
• Working knowledge of Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Portfolio or examples of previous work required.
• Highly proficient in spoken and written English.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a small business environment to meet project and client objectives.
• Ability to work well in a diverse environment.

Salary: $50000 - $65000 per year
