Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
Responsibilities- Review contract documents and assist with procurement, pre‑bid conferences, and evaluations.
- Coordinate activities with other Department staff, contractors, consultants, and public agencies.
- Support Department safety vision and comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures; maintain accountability for safety performance of all project staff.
- Sign “Approved for Construction” drawings.
- Monitor claims, suggest ways to mitigate impacts, and develop solutions to issues during construction.
- Resolve construction‑related issues in coordination with engineering staff, third parties, and other agencies as necessary.
- Attend progress meetings, develop status reports, and deliver presentations as required.
- Assist in negotiating with contractors regarding changes to design, construction work scope, and schedules.
- Participate in the development of contract specifications and manage construction contracts and other professional service contracts as directed by the Project Director.
- Assist in overseeing the performance of all contractors; ensure that all work is completed according to construction plans, specifications, and schedule.
- Meet regularly with Department, contractors, designers, and other consultant staff to monitor and coordinate all phases of the priority project.
- Analyze, audit, and report construction project change orders, RFP’s, RFI’s, & NCR’s.
- Attend, participate in, and sometimes lead various meetings including but not limited to stakeholder meetings, open houses, progress meetings, and meetings with DOT executives and other officials.
While the primary location will be in Region 3, Syracuse, Onondaga County, remote work (telecommuting and/or on contract sites) may be possible in portions of the assignment.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum QualificationsThis position will be filled by temporary appointment, without examination, via Section 64.3 of Civil Service Law.
Candidates must have a valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License with current registration and at least 5 years of post‑licensure civil engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.
