Are you ready to take on a new, exciting challenge as a Senior Metallurgist?

As a Senior Metallurgist at Nori Lab, you will lead analytical and research activities focused primarily on cast materials and wear‑resistant alloys. Operating remotely, you will be responsible for conducting metallurgical evaluations, writing technical reports, coordinating research projects, and driving innovations in material development. Your work will directly support strategic R&D initiatives across Norican for both the Norilab and Castalloy Waukesha.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct metallurgical analyses on primarily cast components, focusing on microstructure characterization and wear behavior evaluation.
  • Investigate microstructural interactions and their influence on mechanical and tribological properties.
  • Develop and optimize laboratory processes to enhance the functionality and efficiency of the Nori Lab.
  • Work as a specialist in research projects related to alloy development and material performance improvement.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with lab technicians, student researchers, and external partners (e.g., FH Münster).
  • Support the implementation ermöglicht, and interpretation of standardized testing methods or adjust them to the needs of Norican (e.g., ASTM G65).
  • Contribute to strategic planning and knowledge retention across brands (DISA, Simpson, Wheelabrator).
  • Research ways to reduce cost in the casting process (as cast solutions by modified chemistry, faster, less expensive heat‑treat solutions, auditing of the ductile process).
  • Coordinate with the engineering team and melt team to establish best practice.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
  • Strong background in cast materials and alloy development.
  • Experience with metallographic techniques, microhardness testing, and chemical analysis (e.g., OES).
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong written communication and reporting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely, with occasional travel.
Specific Tasks
  • Extract and consolidate data from various systems and file types (CSV, ERP, Excel, CRM, SharePoint etc.).
  • Identify, clean and transform raw, unstructured or inconsistent data into usable formats.
  • Build and maintain Excel‑based tools using advanced formulas, pivot tables, and Power Query.
  • Create and update Power BI dashboards and reports (or demonstrate willingness to learn).
  • Validate and cross‑check data to identify discrepancies or errors.
  • Document data processes, logic flows and tool usage to support knowledge transfer.
  • Engage with colleagues to clarify requirements, fill in missing data or address anomalies.
  • Support ad‑hoc data analysis requests and contribute to ongoing E4 initiatives. li>
