The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty at the assistant or associate level with specialization in electric power systems. This is a joint appointment between the College of Engineering & Mines (CEM) and the Alaska Center for Energy & Power (ACEP). Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to power system modeling, protection and control including microgrids and bulk power systems;
renewable and alternative energy systems; energy storage and battery systems; and power electronics.
As an ECE faculty, you will engage with traditional and non‑traditional students, supporting their educational growth, leading to their graduation and productive future careers. You will teach both standard courses and specialty courses at the undergraduate and graduate level with the opportunity to develop new courses related to your research area. With support from the college and your colleagues, you will develop new self‑directed externally funded research projects, engaging students and forming collaborations in your joint research appointment with ACEP, the Institute of Northern Engineering, and other faculty and researchers at UAF.
The ECE department is a small but vibrant community of faculty and students in the College of Engineering and Mines y perform an eclectic mix of research from remote power and renewable energy systems, to embedded systems, satellite communications, RF and optical remote sensing, and aerospace systems.
ACEP is an applied energy research group at UAF that provides leadership in sustainable energy systems for islanded, non‑integrated electric grids, and heating and transportation systems. ACEP fosters innovative solutions to Alaska's energy challenges and is a gateway for energy‑related activity P’s mission is to develop and disseminate practical, cost‑effective and innovative energy solutions for Alaska and beyond.
We are seeking a highly qualified individual with a strong background in engineering, specializing in electric power and energy systems. The ideal candidate holds a PhD in a relevant discipline and has an exceptional research record, demonstrated by high‑quality publications. A passion for the engineering of electric power and energy systems, particularly renewable and alternative energy systems, and their integration from microgrids to large‑scale power systems is essential.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in university‑level teaching, a passion for student engagement, and the ability to lead innovative research projects. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, along with a collaborative, team‑oriented mindset, are key to this role.
- BS degree in electrical engineering.
- MS degree in electrical engineering with applications in electric power engineering.
- PhD in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, renewable energy engineering, or a closely related field.
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. It is a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package.
