Responsibilities- Responsible for meeting firm's engineering quality levels for discipline on assigned projects.
- Oversees development of design concepts by Designers and ensures proper application and execution.
- Verifies designer’s work quality regarding specifications, reports, code application, submittal review, equipment selection, deliverables, and drawings.
- Mentors and encourages development of Designer level staff.
- Responsible for applying firm's risk management practices of project engineering.
- Leads the discipline design to produce construction documents that meet the project requirements within the allocated schedule and budget while minimizing erroneous efforts.
- Has a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and advanced concepts to execute all required aspects of discipline engineering.
- Encourages collaboration to seek the best solutions.
- Front‑end loads projects and applies best practices to set the proper direction of the project in SDs and DDs.
- Manages work plans and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours.
- Writes studies and reports for Electrical systems on projects.
- Executes complex electrical designs with conflicting design requirements or difficult coordination.
- Expert in specific Electrical requirements for applications within a market sector(s).
- Evaluates Value Engineering (cost‑cutting) items with respect to our level of risk.
- Edits and develops basis of design narratives documenting project scope.
- Meets with contractors during bid phase to review the design details.
- Guides Designers on preparation of one‑line diagrams.
- Assists in responding to RFIs for the project, and accurately reviews submittals.
- Solves installation problems with electrical systems, travels to the site to resolve issues.
- Provides guidance for calculations for electrical loads and panel schedules.
- Has thorough knowledge of NEC and other codes.
- Understands and correctly applies concepts of emergency and normal power systems.
- Has extensive knowledge of lighting, photometric, and lighting controls.
- Understands and applies concepts of voltage drop, conductor sizing, harmonics, etc.
- Edits electrical specifications.
- Selects and schedules equipment.
- Meets with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.
- Understands circuit breaker coordination and application.
- Understands specific Electrical requirements for applications within the Market Sector.
- Understands and properly applies details relevant to projects.
- Distributes project‑related correspondence to project team members.
- Prepares project meeting minutes and schedules in‑house discipline meetings.
- Oversees deliverables to and from clients.
- Oversees and encourages coordination between disciplines.
- Provides discipline‑specific manpower planning for projects.
- Provides continuous support for the Project Manager.
- 2+ years' experience in electrical design for Rail/Transit and Building projects.
- Thorough knowledge of NEC and building codes.
- Experience in using SKM Power Tools or similar software for engineering calculations (Preferred: Fault Current Studies, Coordination Studies, Arc Fault Studies).
