What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a highly motivated Electromechanical Technologist to join our team. Our department focuses on embedded electronics, electrical and RF technologies for a wide variety of national security missions in the Transportation Safety and Security Programs (TSSP). The selected candidate will have demonstrated the ability to learn and grow in a dynamic team environment.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Build, modify, repair, and maintain a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, mechanical, and optical devices, instruments, systems, or processes.
  • Provide general lab support.
  • Maintain responsibilities in more than one functional area, including electronics, cable/harness assembly, laser/fiber optical devices, instrumentation, and laboratory operations.
  • Monitor experiments and make and record observations to support the design and development of novel technologies.
  • Coordinate equipment calibration, conduct technical experimentation, document efforts, and provide inputs to scientific and engineering reports and publications.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$62,400 – $120,400

* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require
  • Associate degree in STEM discipline or equivalent experience in technical field(s).
  • Active DOE Q-level (or DOD equivalent) security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to understand requirements and prepare and present results.
  • Experience or knowledge in electronics, mechanics, and optics.
  • Knowledgeable about and have experience with electrical design, installation, testing, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, layouts, and other technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to gain knowledge of, Sandia National Laboratories environment, safety, and health policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team.
About Our Team

The Communications and Electrical Systems Technology Department is responsible for the development and integration of command, control, and communication technologies used in specialized transportation security systems. The department conducts research and development activities in the areas of high consequence software systems, custom embedded circuit design, wireless network communications, intelligent power conditioning and distribution, navigation systems, and sensors. Major programs supported by the department include the Safeguards Transporter (SGT), development of a new high security system called the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) and an advanced concept surety programs called Integrated Surety Architectures (ISA).
