Job DescriptionThis role involves field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. You will communicate with project managers and other stakeholders, transport samples to the laboratory, and prepare written and digital reports. The position allows you to work on high‑profile projects nationwide, enhancing your career in construction materials testing.
General ResponsibilitiesPerform field testing, observe and inspect construction materials; communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client and contractor representatives; transport samples and documentation to the laboratory; tabulate and submit data; maintain equipment, vehicles, and work areas; assist with scheduling technicians; adhere to safety standards.
EssentialRoles and Responsibilities
- Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed.
- Provide clear documentation of findings.
- Verify data accuracy before submission.
- Communicate information to Project Manager and other personnel.
- Assist higher level technicians on complex tasks.
- Maintain assigned equipment and calibration.
- Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow safety rules, perform pre‑task planning, and report safety concerns.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
- Experience with laptop computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
- ICC certification in one or more of the following categories:
Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding. - AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
- ASNT Level II certification in Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
- Other national, regional, state, or local materials related certifications.

CompensationThe national standard salary range for this position is $19.50–$27.50 per hour. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed‑upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
