PCT Patent Analyst (Contract) - Computing/Electronics/Physics
Clarivate is looking for a Patent Analyst with a focus in Computing, Electrical Communication, Electronic Engineering, or Physics to join our team. This is an amazing opportunity to apply your technical expertise to researching and analyzing cutting‑edge technologies at Clarivate.
Work with us as a remote independent contractor in a flexible 1099 role supporting our contract with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Our team has been providing PCT Chapter I Search and Examination services since 2005. As a contractor, you will perform comprehensive searches and draft a written opinion on the patentability of diverse technologies. If selected, you will operate under a consulting agreement presented by Clarivate.
AboutYou – Experience, Education, Skills, and Accomplishments
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related field
- 1+ year of experience working with patents or in the intellectual property field
- 1+ year of work experience in the industry or advanced research in a related field
- Ability to pass USPTO background check
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
- U.S. citizen or work‑eligible legal resident who has resided in the U.S. for the last two years
- Previous patent examining or patent searching experience
- Highly skilled in developing a search methodology and conducting searches
- Strong time‑management skills and ability to complete projects against deadlines
- Experience with Orbit, Pat Base, Google Scholar, or Pat Seer
- Master’s degree or PhD is a plus
- On a weekly basis, accept projects with a defined due date based on your availability and Clarivate’s needs
- Read disclosures quickly and understand technical nuances that may distinguish them from prior art
- Perform comprehensive searches to ensure the most relevant prior art is located and provide a complete search history
- Prepare a written opinion applying the most relevant prior art to the disclosure
- Maintain proficiency with commercial patent searching databases and proprietary technical publication databases
- Stay abreast of best practices and changes to search procedures through self‑directed review of Clarivate materials
- Maintain consistent timeliness and superior quality of deliverables
- Ensure compliance with Clarivate’s Code of Business Ethics and Corporate Conduct
- Reliable, high‑speed internet connection: at least 10 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload bandwidth
- Secure work location; working from public areas is not permitted
- Phone and voicemail service for business communication
- Flexible work hours
- This is a remote position, but all work must be completed in the continental United States
