SummaryWe are seeking a System Health Engineer III/Senior to join our asset‑management and maintenance support organization. In this role, you will apply engineering best practices, leverage asset analytics, and evaluate operational outcomes to maximize the useful life of critical equipment—both inside and outside the substation fence.
Responsibilities- Provide technical engineering, design, economic and analytical support for long‑range system plans and engineering requests, proposals, and presentations.
- Perform engineering tasks requiring application of engineering methods and analysis.
- Take increasing responsibility for technical decisions and provide guidance and leadership to others.
- Quantitatively assess transmission engineering and maintenance, and asset management in the transmission space.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to recommend data‑driven improvements.
- Prepare engineering plans, designs, analyses, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, and technical reviews to ensure compliance with design, regulatory, and operational requirements.
- Interface with customers and departments to verify project objectives and scope, and present technical results.
- Identify schedule or quality problems and initiate corrective action; oversee engineering technical programs as needed.
- Provide oversight of small‑ to medium‑scale projects, including planning, design, scheduling, and coordination.
- Develop long‑range strategies for site problems and recommend design modifications to improve operating efficiency.
- Stay current with technology, engineering developments, and industry trends.
- Create asset‑management and business‑case documentation to justify maintenance strategies.
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline.
- Five (5) years of engineering‑related experience.
- Approved engineering degrees:
Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Architectural, or Structural. (A four‑year Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not an automatic equivalent; a curriculum review is required.)
- A four‑year Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- Eight (8) years of engineering‑related experience.
- Approved degrees:
Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Architectural, or Structural. (A four‑year Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not an automatic equivalent; a curriculum review is required.)
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance and testing strategies in transmission and distribution equipment.
- Familiarity with strategic asset management.
- Problem analysis and resolution techniques.
- Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, and safety standards.
- Experience in the utility industry.
- Professional Engineer licensure.
Employees in hybrid roles work both from a home office and onsite. Hybrid employees are expected to work about 40 % of their time in‑person at an APS or other (non‑home office) location.
- Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or new Mexico for Four Corners‑based employees).
- Working from a home office requires adequate technology and ergonomic setup.
- Role types are subject to change based on business need.
