Intermediate Regulatory Advisor

Responsibilities
  • Assist clients and team members in understanding regulatory issues and propose solutions.
  • Identify, draft, review and submit regulatory applications.
  • Advise on strategic approaches for obtaining regulatory approvals and provide guidance on timelines.
  • Maintain regular contact with key regulatory agencies to stay informed of policy changes.
  • Interact with clients to provide regulatory guidance and strengthen relationships.
  • Proactively monitor, manage and report on delivery of deliverables.
  • Participate in industry and government forums to foster communication and advancement of knowledge.
  • Collect and analyze data from public sources to determine compliance requirements.
  • Review regulatory applications and manage application requirements to secure approvals.
  • Prepare amendments and corrections accurately reflecting operations.
  • Support environmental field work as required.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to junior staff.
  • Engage in business development and networking activities.
  • Collaborate with technical and non‑technical team members.
  • Manage projects across a broad range of industries and geographies.
Position Qualifications
  • Minimum 6+ years of proven experience in regulatory compliance, permitting, or environmental management (oil and gas or industrial sector preferred).
  • Degree in environmental, natural resource, or water management, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Registered professional or eligible for registration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask efficiently and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulatory frameworks related to oil and gas developments (e.g., Water Act, Environmental Protection & Enhancement Act, Canadian Environmental Protection Act). Recognition of specific regulations may be preferred.
  • Experience with reporting compliance management, bid proposal development, and estimates.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and deliverables with quality assurance reviews.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with clients, internal teams, and support services.
Additional Qualifications / Assets
  • Professional designation or eligibility to register as a Professional Biologist, Agrologist, or Engineer.
  • Strong relationships with regulatory bodies.
  • Business development, business analysis, strategic planning, project management, or consulting experience.
  • Knowledge of upstream and midstream processing and equipment.
  • Experience in collaborative development environments.
  • Experience with Environmental Assessments (soils, vegetation, wetlands, etc.).
  • Experience developing and implementing Environmental Protection and Management Plans.
