Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Remote (25% travel)
Position Overview
A confidential engineering and automation organization is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to support complex electrical control system upgrade and integration projects. This role is a key contributor within multidisciplinary project teams and is responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and high‑quality electrical designs that support successful project execution. The position collaborates closely with project engineering, controls engineering, and cross‑functional technical teams while also serving as a technical mentor to design peers.
This role does not include direct people‑management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and network diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Produce complete and accurate project documentation, including bills of material (BOMs), system tagging, and wire labeling schedules.
- Develop and enhance AutoCAD Electrical tools to improve design standardization, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Create, maintain, and optimize AutoLISP routines to automate repetitive design tasks.
- Maintain and continuously improve electrical CAD libraries, templates, and drafting standards.
- Deploy new design tools and provide guidance or training to peer electrical designers as needed.
- Review and validate electrical designs to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
- Support design reviews and collaborate with project and controls engineers to resolve technical issues.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Drafting and Design, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in a project‑based or systems‑integration environment.
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience developing and maintaining AutoLISP scripts.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical standards and codes (e.g., NEC, IEC).
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting PLC‑based control systems and industrial automation projects.
- Familiarity with additional electrical design platforms such as EPLAN or Solid Works Electrical.
- Exposure to ERP systems, engineering change management processes, or document control workflows.
Work Environment
This role operates in a combination of office and job‑site environments. Standard business hours are typically Monday through Friday; however, schedules may vary based on project demands. Occasional evening, weekend, and extended field/start‑up work may be required. Travel to customer or project sites is expected.
Physical Requirements
The role may require occasional climbing of stairs or ladders, navigating construction areas, bending, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands for detailed technical work. Occasional lifting or movement of equipment may be required. Work environments may include construction sites with exposure to moving equipment, electrical hazards, varying weather conditions, and elevated noise levels.
