The Lead Field Service Engineer, under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of engineering tasks and ensures proper installation, service and commissioning of products and services. The role provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects and provides maintenance, breakdown emergency support and remote troubleshooting.
Job Description Responsibilities- Perform installation and commissioning on drive systems at customer site locations during ship construction.
- Conduct troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled port visits or at sea to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.
- Execute a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of equipment.
- Develop documentation for commissioning and maintenance procedures and conduct customer training.
- Serve as on‑site project manager and technical lead to resolve customer issues and provide customer satisfaction.
- Identify sales opportunities for service agreements, spare parts, training, and upgrades.
- Provide on‑call support in response to customer calls for service.
- Assist in the growth and direction of the North American business.
- Support engineering teams working on customer upgrade projects.
- Complete timely service reports and other administrative requirements.
- Perform work on‑board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines, either in shipyards or offshore.
- Extended hours or overtime may be required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
- Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- OR Associate’s Degree or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 5 additional years of related industry experience.
- OR School diploma or GED equivalency with a minimum of 8 years of related industry experience.
- Ability and willingness to travel 85% of the time, on short notice.
- Physically fit to board vessels offshore.
- Previous marine industry experience.
- For offshore potential, must be able to pass a Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET) and offshore survival course which includes activities in a swimming pool.
- US person with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects.
- Possesses leadership qualities that align with GE Vernova Way.
- Background in a customer‑facing position within a service environment.
- Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments requiring considerable engineering skill, creative ability, and independent judgment.
The base pay range for this position is $78,800 – $131,200, with additional bonus opportunities such as a performance bonus, variable incentive compensation, and equity. The salary may be influenced by experience, education, and skill set, and a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% may apply.
