Physical Security Engineer (Data Centers)
Jacobs is looking for a Physical Security Engineer to work on security projects in the Data Center market. The role involves collaborating closely with the security technology team and designing and developing security solutions for buildings, facilities, and sites.
Base pay range$/yr - $/yr
Responsibilities- Preliminary assessments
- Concept creation
- Leading designs with support from peers, SME’s, and BIM designers
- Internal and external problem resolution
- Drawing and specification production
- Customer and vendor accessibility
- Ensuring projects are completed on time while working on multiple concurrent assignments
- Designing security solutions: creating schematics, schedules, and plan drawings
- Performing calculations for video storage, bandwidth usage, and power loads
- Contributing to cross‑discipline coordination and identifying potential conflicts or inconsistencies with architectural, civil, electrical, and instrumentation teams
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical/scientific discipline; master’s degree preferred. - Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.
- Professional security certifications (CISSP, CPP, PSP, etc.) are a plus.
- Experience:
12+ years of professional experience in planning, designing, and commissioning physical security systems and/or communication networks; project management experience is a plus. - Technical expertise
- In‑depth knowledge of physical security systems such as video surveillance, access control, biometric systems, and intrusion detection.
- Familiarity with leading manufacturers and vulnerability/risk assessment methodologies.
- Ability to evaluate emerging security technologies and analyze trade‑offs (e.g., multi‑megapixel cameras vs. thermal imaging cameras; ground‑based radar vs. LiDAR for perimeter intrusion detection).
- Strong understanding of network technologies and cybersecurity principles.
- Skills
- Exceptional problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and provide/receive constructive feedback.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, Revit, ACC, BIM
360, AutoCAD, and/or Micro Station. - Knowledge of CSI design and construction specifications.
- Experience estimating and scheduling mid‑to‑large‑scale project design effort.
- Knowledge of construction cost estimating for security implementation.
- Preferred: experience leading projects and managing resources, mentoring junior staff, design management experience, and design experience in data centers.
